Mental Health/Counseling

The Behavioral Health Urgent Care serves children, teens and their families struggling with urgent emotional and/or behavioral concerns posing a risk to their safety or the safety of others or creating significant impairment in their daily lives.

This program has been made possible by a generous grant from Price Philanthropies.

We serve children and teens ages 5 to 17 in the Mid-City community and surrounding areas. We accept Medi-Cal and private insurance. We are also able to provide services to the uninsured and undocumented.

We see youth experiencing the following concerns:

  • Suicidal thoughts

  • Psychotic thinking

  • Physical aggression or risk of harm to others

  • Depression and/or anxiety

  • Acute stress reaction

  • Co-occurring problems with substance use/abuse

The Chadwick Center for Children & Families at Rady Children’s offers programs and services that provide for the prevention, identification and treatment of abused and traumatized children, as well as women impacted by domestic violence.

With a staff of more than 75 professionals in the fields of medicine, social work, psychology, psychiatry, child development, nursing, and education technology, the Center is one of the largest hospital-based child advocacy and trauma treatment centers in the nation. Expert medical care is provided by the Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics of Rady Children’s Specialists of San Diego.

To help children and women cope with their trauma, we use a variety of medical, social and therapeutic approaches, all of which are evidence-based.

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services (CAPS) program is an inpatient unit for children and adolescents up to age 18 with psychiatric illness. The unit is located on the third floor of the Nelson Family Pavilion.

Comprehensive psychiatric care is provided by a highly experienced team of specialists from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and specially trained health professionals from Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.

The conditions treated include:

  • Depression

  • Psychosis

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Substance abuse

Rady Children’s Developmental Evaluation Clinic (DEC) offers developmental evaluation and referral services for infants, preschoolers and school-age children.

Our healthcare professionals are psychologists and neuropsychologists. A psychologist has a doctoral in psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and a California state license. A neuropsychologist has a Ph.D. in psychology, a California state license and specialized training and experience in neuropsychological assessment.

The Mental Health Department at Home Start provides therapy services to children, families, and adults, both in the community and at the Home Start Inc. Counseling Center. Most services are FREE to clients.  If you are seeking services or more information about services provided, please call our intake line and leave your information. One of our staff will return your call and determine which of our programs best meets your needs.

Service programs include:

  • Child Abuse Treatment (CHAT)

    • Free home based, school based or office based Trauma Focused individual therapy for children under the age of 18 who have been the victims of some types of abuse, bullying, community violence or parental substance abuse.

  • Health Development Services (HDS)

    • Free office-based behavioral services in East and Central regions. Serving children ages 0-6, or who are not yet in Kindergarten (they can be in Transitional Kindergarten).

  • Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse (ASCA) Groups

KidSTART is a program for children under 6 years old with complex needs in multiple areas of daily life. After an evaluation, each child and family referred to KidSTART will be recommended for services that fit their unique needs. The recommended services can be provided by KidSTART or another program in the community. These services may be delivered in individual, family or group settings.

How is a child referred to KidSTART?

  • Parents can call and refer their own child.

  • With the parent’s permission, a child can be referred by a teacher, doctor, social worker or other community provider .

Located on the Neighborhood Healthcare campus, a full range of comprehensive medical services are provided within walking distance of Neighborhood Healthcare ~ Escondido. Provides primary care services with a focus on women’s breast and cervical cancer detection, adolescent health and wellness, pregnancy testing, and reproductive services for men and women. To have the greatest opportunity in life, mental health and substance abuse challenges among children must be identified early.  Intervention and treatment can strengthen coping skills, support parents, and target success in school.

Lifeline's Behavioral Health Staff - in schools, in homes, and in the community - assists youth ages 3 to 21 years old who are diagnosed with anxiety, depression, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, oppositional disorder, eating disorders, substance abuse and addiction, and autism. 

We also offer prevention programs to help kids build resiliency before they reach their teen years. These programs specifically focus on kids who are facing poverty and growing up in tough neighborhoods, and helps them to prepare for high school and college.

PFCS mission is to strengthen families through community outreach services, professional counseling, and working with local collaborations. The agency mission is expressed through the provision of a full range of comprehensive and integrated services that include prevention, education, early intervention, assessment, clinical treatment, individual and family counseling, crisis response and professional training.

PFCS counselors provide help for people who are struggling with a range of emotional, behavioral, and social issues. Services are available on a sliding scale fee basis. Day, evening, and weekend appointments are available.
